2021.12.08 Review of bayberry students published in the international academic journal Biochim Biophys Acta Rev Cancer

On December 8, 2021, Yang Mei published a review paper entitled "Psychological intervention to treat distress: An emerging frontierin cancer prevention and therapy" in the international academic journal Biochim Biophys Acta Rev Cancer (impact factor 10.68).

With the continuous development and change of society, a variety of factors, including frequent use of social media and increasingly complex interpersonal communication, have led to people being in different degrees of mental stress for a long time, such as chronic depression and anxiety. Studies have shown that cancer patients are also often under mental stress, which is often associated with poor prognosis. A large number of epidemiological statistical analyses have found that there are inextricable links between chronic mental stress and cancer progression, and more and more cellular and molecular studies have begun to prove that mental stress regulates cancer progression through many complex signaling pathways. In this review, in order to uncover the mechanisms by which chronic mental stress promotes tumorigenesis and development, we summarize mental stress response-related pathways, such as the HPA, SNS, and MGB axis, which regulate the release of stress hormones with potential carcinogenic properties. In addition, we also discuss in detail the molecular mechanisms by which these chronic mental stresses promote cancer initiation and development by directly regulating signals related to cancer characteristics or indirectly promoting cancer risk factors (including obesity, circadian rhythm disorders, and premature aging), and propose new research directions for cancer prevention and treatment based on psychological interventions.
